A healthy workplace protects all workers and communities, build a positive impact on business continuity and employment. Promoting health at the workplace is both the right thing (ethical) and the smart thing (adds value) to do. In a COVID-19 crisis and New Normal, the workplace is an important setting for health protection, health promotion and disease prevention programs. For individuals, workplace health efforts have the potential to impact an employee’s health, such as their health behaviors; health risks for disease; and current health status. For organizations, workplace health initiatives have the potential to impact areas such as health care costs, absenteeism, productivity, recruitment/retention, and culture and employee morale.
Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) is the essential sector of a healthy workplace. WASH comprises the system, behavior change and facilities. It has interconnection to support the organization gain the optimal advantages of it. Hand-hygiene is one of WASH focused intervention. Ensuring and maintaining hand-hygiene at the workplace for all employees, customers and visitors is strongly recommended by the WHO especially during the New Normal setting.
Hand-hygiene is a simple concept; however, many people still do not practice in the required regular way. As one of the 3 components of the new normal (social distance, wearing mask and hand-hygiene), it is crucial to ensure the company ensure the mandatory of hand-hygiene knowledge and effective practice among personnel and customers.
